The North Side Karate System

Six styles. One system.

Grand Master D.E. Chambers formed the North Side Karate System in 1994 as a mixed style. Tae Kwon Do is the base, and five more styles each bring something specific to the mat.

  • The base

    Tae Kwon Do

The basic program, the forms and the kicks.

  • Throws

    Judo

The basis for the throws and takedowns.

  • Sparring

    Free Style Karate

Shapes the kumite and the sport karate side of training.

  • Stances and strikes

    Shotokan

Deep stances, hard linear strikes and close quarter fighting techniques.

  • Close range

    Wing Chun

Close fighting with quick, short, circular hand movements.

  • The highest levels

    Jeet Kune Do

Its philosophy and training spirit add the practical application of every technique.

What you'll train

Self-defense you can use.

Teen and adult classes build the same foundation the system is known for, then go further. Alongside traditional karate, NSK offers dedicated classes for teens and adults:

  • Kickboxing fundamentals. Striking basics, built for teens and adults.
  • Submission grappling. Drawing on wrestling, judo and jiu-jitsu.
  • Advanced striking. Elements of boxing, Muay Thai, full contact karate and kickboxing, for those who want to compete in the ring or the cage.
  • Taekwondo. The kicks and forms at the root of the North Side Karate System.

NSK also holds women-only self-defense seminars through the year. Ask about the next one when we call.

Grown-ups start at white belt too

From the people on the mat.

Join forces with your family or come on your own. Here is what adult students say about training at NSK.

Competition is optional

The A.O.K. circuit, if you want it.

NSK is an A.O.K. school. The Amateur Organization of Karate is the oldest open sport karate tournament sanctioning organization in Texas, and the NSK Competition Team travels the circuit.

Competing is a choice, never a requirement. Train for self-defense, for fitness, for the hour of focus, or go for a state title. The work on the mat is the same.
